March Laplinks
By valerie | March 8, 2008
I am soooo slow at getting the March Laplinks up, mostly because I’ve been having horrible problems with getting my site to recognize the Mr. Linky thing…I must be doing something wrong, and also because I’ve been working like crazy to get the new format of the Lapbook Lessons main site in order.
So we’re going to switch things up a bit for this months lapbook, Come check out www.lapbooklessons.ning.com and join in our Laplink meme from there! This will give all those voters (people who voted but didn’t create a lapbook) a chance to have some webspace and contribute by sharing links.
And hopefully we’ll keep it a bit more organized for everyone involved, and you can see past formats of our Lapblinks memes from there, so if you were a participant, you’re post is archived on the site!
Anyway, we’re technically not public and launched yet, but if I wait another day I think we’ll miss out on our March blog meme….which I’m really excited about because it’s on Easter / Resurrection!
So come by our new site, get yourself a profile page and join some groups. Not everything is fully functional at the moment….I guess you could say that we’re in beta….but we can at least share our Easter Lapbooks till I get the rest of everything set up!
See ya there!
In Christ,

Free Lapbook: Mary Cassat
By valerie | February 12, 2008
Homeschool E Store just put up the new freebie for this week, and I’m pleased to announce that it’s a free lapbook from In the Hands of a Child. The lapbook is on Mary Cassat, an American Impressionist during the late 1800’s. You can download this lapbook for free from here.
And I’m most ashamed to say that I’ve never heard of Mary Cassat (or if I have, it’s knowledge long forgotten….) So perhaps I’ll be doing this one first on my own…it does look for an older age then sissy, but we’ll store this one away for later!
Have Fun!
In Christ,
Valerie

February Laplinks
By valerie | February 2, 2008
We’ll, it’s that time again! Time to tally the votes and see what our Lapbook theme will be for this month. There were so many great ideas suggested by everyone, that I was bitting my nails as I watched the votes come in! For a while there was a three way tie between Groundhogs, Jesus Loves Me, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs…..so I was really thankful for the surge of people that came a voting yesterday, and today….I just wouldn’t have been able to break the tie and choose one….we would have been doing all three! lol
But in the end, Jesus Loves Me was the ultimate winner, so our February lapbook will very fittingly be focused on Love! I’m really excited because I’ve got quite a few resources already made up for February, and this gives me a great kick in the seat to get them up and posted before it’s too late!
I’m actually really excited that we’ll be doing the Jesus Loves Me theme, because I’ve wanted to create a printable Bible Lapbook on Jesus Loves Me. So along the way, I’ll be gleening ideas from all of you, so if you want to share extra ideas for what you’d like to see in a printable lapbook (perhaps for your next child) just leave a comment and I’ll incorporate it :)
For now, though I’ve got a couple little fun printables you can use for your lapbook

I made two different cover pages for your lapbooks, you can print them in bw or color, by changing the page number that prints out.
And here are some links to get you started:
First, you have to check out Jamin’s Wordless Lapbook, and look for the Colors of Salvation.
Second, check out all the Valentine’s Day printables we have on Christian Preschool Printables
–There are some sequencing activities, crafts, calendar numbers (which you could make into a ffg) and more
Third, visit Sunday School Printables, to pick up some fun stickers for decorating your lapbook. Print on sticker paper or just cut out and glue
Forth, go print up this little booklet, craft called The One who Unites Hearts. This would make a nice little minibook inside your lapbook.
Fifth, check out this “Create in Me” Puzzle heart, it’s perfect for your Jesus Loves me Lapbook!
And finally, if you’ve got a few spare dollars for your homeschool this month, check out Memory Cross, and their Valentine’s Day Coloring Cards. These would make great cards your child could use one for their lapbook and pass out the others!
HINT: Sign up for their Newsletter, to share their site with 3 friends, and get a $5.00 off coupon for your order (The Valentine’s Day Cards are $4.99) So you just pay shipping :) All their products are located under PURCHASE.
Okay, so I hope that will get you started in your quest for Jesus Loves Me lapbook materials…..don’t forget to visit everyone’s blogs to get your links!
In Christ,
Valerie
Hmmmm? Seem to be having problems with the Mr. Linky. Leave your link in your comment for now, and I’ll work on getting it fixed! Be right back :)

I Stink Lapbook
By valerie | February 1, 2008
Okay, my kids are just in love with this book, “I Stink” by Kim and Jim McMullan. We practically have it on permenant loan from the library, we just can’t stand to give it back. Bubba especially, he’s really attached to it…it’s the first thing that’s pushed in my face when I wake up in the morning.
There are so many wonderful pictures and fun “text” through out the book, that it makes the perfect material for lapbooking! Not to mention the ABC’s of the Alphabet Soup….now what a fun way to work on your ABC’s!
I realized later that this might make a great topic and accompanyment to some Earth Day lessons, so you could go print it and file it away untill then if you like too! Also, there are some great links, up on there too, if you want to supplement it for older children.
Okay, so here’s the link…you can find the printable lapbook from there, and watch the video for how we put it all together.
Catch ya later!
In Christ,
Valerie

It’s Done! Early too!
By valerie | February 1, 2008
The Little House in the Big Woods lapbook is here! Just in time for February, which is perfect, because the reading plan is for 25 days, and you could print it, get the book and start it with your child by next Monday and make a whole month out of it!
Well, I didn’t really expect to have this up and ready for at least a couple of days, but I caught a break (from the kids….thanks to dear Hubby) and got the video and printable lapbook uploaded tonight!
Now, it’s kinda a large file, more then 20 pages, so start the link up and go make your coffee or something, or watch the instructional video on how to put it together.
Little House in the Big Woods Lapbook
Hope you like what you find! It was really a lot of fun doing it, and if you have older children, there are some recommended links for supplementing it :)

Valerie

Help! Killer Whale Lapbook
By valerie | January 31, 2008
Sissy want’s to put together a lapbook on Killer Whales, or Orcas. I’m having a horrible time finding any printable resources on killer whales…and at this point I would even pay for some! lol
Anyone know of some good Killer Whale Printables we can use in our lapbook? We’re going to the library tommerow to get some whale books, and I want to be prepared to give her some activities besides coloring pages!
Most of what I did find was coloring pages and photographs, so I’m still searching.
I did find one interesting video on whales however, one that was shot in my own State for that matter, right off the coast of Florence Oregon. It was funny too, because before they said it was in Oregon, I thought, hey that looks like Oregon. Okay, well not really that funny, but imagine my surprise.
Now, I don’t usually go surfing the internet for Exploding Whale videos, but I was on a Craft Video site, and for some reason this Exploding Whale Video pulls up…..and you know, I’m looking for Whale resources, and perhaps this video is going to be something of educational value (I justifed it quite easily, in fact) so I clicked, and I watched.
So here’s the official WARNING: Don’t watch this video (and quit reading my blog right now) if you have a weak stomach, or wouldn’t care to see a 45 foot, beached, 8 ton whale blown to tiny (well actually rather quite large, and flying, and dangerous) pieces……Me, I find that kinda interesting…..I mean…really? What were they thinking? What about the crowd that is standing way, way too close to the explosion? And did they really need that much dynamite? Kinda looked like they over-did themselves a bit……Who came up with the idea anyway?
(Yes, it was beached and dead before they blew it up)
Apparently this happened in 1970, way before I was born……..anyone older remember hearing about this? So Strange! Man, I wonder what happened to the guy whoose car got hit by that big chunk of whale? Or the guy who had the idea of blowing up the whale in the first place….He must be the one in the bulldozer as the video ends……Yuck!
In Christ,
Valerie

Little House in the Big Woods Lapbook
By valerie | January 30, 2008
Okay, now don’t get too excited just yet, I haven’t quite finished the lapbook, there are still a couple of finishing touches that need to be handled, and of course a demonstration video, but I just wanted to give you a little preview of what you can expect to see on Lapbook Lessons next month!
In a few days I’ll be uploading a free Little House in the Big Woods Lapbook, something we’ve been working on for quite some time. Some of you may already know that we are using the Little Hearts for His Glory Homeschool Curriculum, and instead of using the Peter Rabbit series, we opted to do the Little House on the Prairie series. So we started with Little House in the Big Woods, and along the way I kept track of all the crafts and activities, and even the pages we read, so this is really going to be a great addition to your homeschool, especially for all you Little House fans!
The Little House in the Big Woods Lapbook will be available to download shortly, but I’m so excited about it I just had to squeal, and at least show you the cover of the Lapbook. I spent some time hand drawing a couple of the images in the book, so it’s sure to be fun and interactive for your children as they go along through the book.
Okay, I’ll be back soon with the download! Stay Tuned, or sign up for our newsletter (top right sidebar) and we’ll keep you posted!
In Christ,
Valerie
